Ball by Ball commentary & live score – ENG vs IND for 2nd ODI.

That’s when it was just enjoyable! The series is now on to Lord’s. That’s all for this time folks. On behalf of George, Raghav and Harshith, it’s Abhimanyu signing off. Goodnight.

Harry Brook: “I thought it was a phenomenal effort [with the ball]. They were 180 for 3 after 30 overs and looking like getting a good total. When Sam and Jacks were bowling together, they did well and then to bowl them out was ridiculous. On another day we might have another spinner but today

we thought the extra seamer was the right option. [On Root] He’s a phenomenal player. You can learn so much off him in the changing room as well. Great player to have around and he turns up when you need him the most. He’s been one of the best in the world for many years at rotating strike.

I actually remember an innings from a few years back where he hit just three fours and got a hundred. Phenomenal rotator of strike. [On maybe having to qualify for the 2027 World Cup] We are just taking every day as it comes. If we have to qualify, we have to qualify. Right now we are just looking towards Sunday.”

Shubman Gill: “Quite disappointing on the total, we thought 300-310 would have been a good total after 25 overs when we were in a good position, but it was just too many wickets in the middle of the innings.

India Vs England

I don’t think it would have made too much difference when we were forcing a shot at 5 or above, but when you lose a key player, there is some momentum loss. [Sundar] was a big part of our team,

we have to rely on our main bowlers throughout. I don’t think it would have made too much difference if he was not there, squeezing in the pressure.

If you look at the last 30 games in the record, our record here or if you look at the here and now, I think you’ll see our record is very different.

We learned lessons from that defeat in Sri Lanka, and we did that here: to beat the world No.1 team is great, but the perception of this team is very different from where it’s at.

They went on to win by 4 wickets (35 balls to spare). 2nd ODI (D/N), Cardiff, July 16, 2026, India tour of England. Win Probability. ENG 100%. IND

India Vs England

India took an early lead in the series with a 250-plus chase in the first ODI and England have now come back to level the series at 1-1. The hosts kept up the pressure without temerity after Joe Root produced a fantastic unbeaten 99, and were rewarded with an unbeaten 100 of their own from Michael Lias, which headed the way to a winner takes all final.

The Indian batters have, however, appeared somewhat unsteady in the past two games with the middle order and top order looking for some consistency. They’ll be ready to rectify it when the teams do clash at the all-famous Lord’s for the decider.

Rohit Sharma’s performance will no doubt be one of the hottest topics of discussion in the last ODI. He’s still yet to settle his rhythm in the series, but big guys tend to come through during big games.

Will he be able to do it in the series-decider? The answer will be revealed on Sunday. From our side it’s goodbye for now…
Harry Brook, England captain: Very. Yes, we’re still in a series so looking forward to Sunday. I believed it was an amazing effort [to restrict India to 233]. They were 180 for 3 after 30 overs and looking like getting a big total. There was a good couple of periods when Sam and Jacks were bowling together.

India Vs England

I believe they were excellent on both ends. Then to get them out 7 for 60 in the end was ridiculous. It was on the pre-conditions earlier, when you had to make an extra seamer in playing XI. That’s what we were aiming to do when we were picking up the XI on. Don’t forget another day, we may need another spinner.

But today we decided that the added seamer was the best idea. It takes an absolute class act like Joe Root to beat 99 and make a difference in the team. A lot can be gleaned from him in the locker room too. He’s a great bloke to have around.

He always seems to be there when we need him. Yeah, of course, younger players can take something from Root’s batting speed. He’s been one of the best in the world for many years now at rotating strike. I can recall an innings he played last year or two where I believe that he only managed to cover three four balls and still managed to get 100.

But he’s a phenomenal rotator of strike. And that’s a major part in ODI cricket. Just every day for now really, England’s progress towards the 2027 World Cup. Once we have to qualify, we have to. But we are now heading towards Sunday and seeing what the situation is on Sunday and trying to outdo them.

Quite disappointing to be honest with you, India, after a strong start, is bowled out for 233, writes Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian team. After 25 overs, we felt that we scored 300+310 will be a good total. We were in a fortunate spot. We did lose too many wickets in the middle overs however. Our tailenders aren’t the best batsmen, I mean two collapses of India.

But I suppose we had higher hopes for the lower middle order and didn’t make the most of the start that we had. Hopefully, the next time we get there, we’ll attempt to develop some small partnerships and take from there. When you get the ping on your dismissal clean straight to cover, it’s never a good feeling.

India Vs England

[The impact of Washington Sundar’s injury] You know, he’s a key part of our team. I believe he injured himself while he was at the plate, taking that hit to mid-off and perhaps it did have a role to play, under pressure. All our main bowlers had to play the whole game.

But I don’t think it would have had a huge impact as the ball was all of a sudden becoming a problem for the fast bowlers. So when you get rid of somebody like that, you need to alter your tactics, you need to alter the people who are bowling. In that regard, yes, we did have a bit of a downward swing.

Well, no Joe, not really. I mean, 240, we always knew, if we would have had 300, close to 5.5-6, we knew maybe we could produce a false shot out of him. However, 4.5-5 runs per over, he’s the king of such numbers. It was just that we could never find a shot that he broke and couldn’t make.
Joe Root | Player of the Match:

Not at all, England missed out on a hundred. That is the game of which it is about. 1-1 series on the eve of Lord’s. In that sort of situation and on that ground, just to be there at the end and do the job is possibly the greatest feeling in cricket. I have got out a few times funny, but not.

But, as I said, that’s not what you play for. Games are played to win. And this series is just alive again today, as we intended it to do. And I’m so excited for a big game now at Lord’s. I guess during the whole game, it was hard to hit.

And I think our bowlers did a brilliant job once they got that partnership, to peg them back to that score, gave us the opportunity to bat time and to soak up a bit of pressure in different periods of the game, if and when we needed to. I thought we did a fine job doing that all.

And you always have to win the scrappy and ugly to get across the line of course. And, as I said, it’s now Lord’s, and we have everything to play for! Well, it’s up to the viewer as to whether the criticism is warranted or not.

India Vs England

I mean, you could see our record of the last 30 games, or you could look at what has happened the past 30 games. And I think this team should be judged on the here and now. Sri Lanka was the first team in as many years to be victorious here.

And like that series, we lost the first game, learned, and evolved and got better and adapted. Well, that’s what we did today too. The question is, can they do it at Lord’s under pressure against, again, an amazing team, and the number one-ranked team in the world? For us to stand up and play like that,

I think, shows where we are and is a good benchmark for us. So, let’s back it up again at Lord’s. And then I think there’s a very different look to, or perception to where this team is. I believe it is located in a different area than it might be thought to be.

England bounce back in style with four wicket victory to even the three-match ODI series at 1-1. They had laid the cornerstone with their pace attack in the first half when they bundled India out for 233 runs. The pace duo of Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson did their bit with 3 wickets each and the other seam bowlers contributed to the Indian batting order to keep them under pressure.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were the only two to add value with the bat and Jasprit Bumrah scored a few late runs, but India’s total wasn’t threatening at any point. However, England’s pursuit was far from smooth as the Indian pacers were able to move with the new ball.

But when the pressure eased out, Joe Root brought his game into own. He was calm and composed throughout, holding the chase together superbly, punishing the loose ball and turning the ball over with ease.

The role of Sam Curran, Will Jacks and Gus Atkinson was also crucial in creating some useful combinations with Root, who kept England on track.

The all time unbeaten knock of 99* by Root became the game’s highlight. The series is now level at 1-1 and it will all be played out at Lord’s on the final ODI. Please be aware that the presentation ceremony will be announced soon.
