Date & Time: Wednesday, September 9, 11:00 AM LOCAL
Pakistan tour of England 2026
It’s that English Test summer done at last. After that, they got off to a flying start and claimed victory in the opening Test against NZ, but it went south from there before they righted their ship in style with a clean sweep over Pakistan.
There’s still some white-ball cricket to be played, with Sri Lanka travelling to England for the limited-overs series, starting on Tuesday (September 15). Wait and witness that and much more in cricket. Until next time, this is Akshay Maanay, signing off on behalf of Abhinand Raghavendran and Praveen P. Goodbye..
England
England too came into this series with a bit of chaos. Ben Stokes was retired, Brendon McCullum had departed and Stephen Fleming was appointed head coach but will only replace South Africa captain in the series.Ben Stokes retired, Brendon McCullum had gone, Stephen Fleming was appointed head coach but will only replace South Africa captain in the series and Joe Root was reappointed as captain.
They needed some steadying and calmness, and Root provided just that. England started with a thumping win at Headingley, although that was overshadowed by the Brydon Carse incident. Since then, they’ve taken a new approach and done what’s really important – play the game – and the rest is history: 3-0 sweep.

There are many bright spots for England to bring to the new Fleming-Root era in South Africa. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, Ollie Robinson was the top bowler with 21 wickets, as accurate and as effective with both ball and bounce.
The four pronged pace attack complemented one another well in the series and Jordan Cox and Daniel Lawrence were the best of the batters, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, when at the crease and should be looking for an extended partnership in the XI.
Root hasn’t scored a hundred this summer, but he is the best batter in England and will be looked upon to come through in South Africa when they go back to Test cricket. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Pakistan 1st Inning

Pakistan: England vs Pakistan 3rd Test
This Test was Pakistan crumbled in a nutshell – volatile, fun, messy and unstable. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, There were times, especially when it came from Razaullah, when everyone would go WOW and times when it was just the same old Pakistan.
Mike Hesson also shared his thoughts on the end being better than the means, prior to the Test, when asked by Nasser Hussain whether the end justifies the means if Pakistan manages to win after all the tumult. Look, I can’t really coin on that, you know, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, I have a certain set of cards, and I have to make the best with it.” They certainly made great use of those cards.
The first innings didn’t really give any indication, but the second innings saw them apply themselves with the ball much more than they did with the bat. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, They arrived on the final day with a sliver of hope and had they taking up the opportunities presented by Joe Root, what might have happened?
They might have been whitewashed but, at least, the radical change before this Test have produced some positives. The most genuine and unrefined gem they have discovered is Razaullah, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, the largest take away from this game. He was a fast, aggressive bowler and kept everyone dancing in the plates with the bat.
Azan Awais also proved his worth in this format and in such conditions with his gritty knock and the old hands Masood and Abbas showed that they still have a few years in them. There is a base that’s going to build on it but a lot will depend from Pakistan’s part after that. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Root (3/3): Yeah, five dismissals were kind of under the radar how well he did to step up and do the role that he did was fantastic and to go and back that up with a brilliant knock today, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, showed great maturity, calmness up out there, and he hadn’t got a ton of experience at number three, has taken to the role wonderfully. He is so happy about it, and hopefully buoys up a lot from it.

The most pleasing thing about this series is the uncertainty of noise, the chaos that has poured into the series and the way the guys have managed it and been England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, clinical about what’s been thrown in front of them and then come up here 3-0 and set us up for the start of a new era with Stephen Fleming.
But without Brendon’s (McCullum) coaching and Ben’s (Stokes) captaincy we never would be able to play the way we did. I believe it’s an evolution and continuation of all the things that went before that. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, So that has to continue forward, and we’ll continue to keep trying to evolve that and improve on what’s been a really good summer here. I think he has been great as a stand-in Coach.
It can’t be an easy thing when you know that it’s not a long-term role, and for him to be able to sort of juggle between trying to look forward and what that might look like, but also be able to have his influence and his way of seeing the game on this group has been fantastic. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test,
I believe that he has struck the right balance and he’d be so much better for it, too. He’s a great coach though, he has a lot of respect he has gained from the group and hopefully we’ll be collaborating with him for a lot longer.
Yeah, I think it’s a theme that’s come across in cricket more and more of late for guys to bat further down the order. (2/3) And we’ll do our work, and we’ll make sure we have plans in place. Well, as far as Razaullah’s info goes, it wasn’t that there was much to get ready to play with, but whatever there is, we’re going to do our bit and be better prepared for South Africa. If you get yourself in here [this series] I think everybody would be wanting to go on if you got the batters whose job is to convert fifties to hundreds to get into the action.
But I do also think that’s been the nature of the summer, and the surfaces we’ve had. It’s been across the board, it’s not just been necessarily us. So it’s been a more normal Test cricket these past few days. It’s been a harder fought campaign for your wickets. Try to hit the ball freely if they get in and you feel you can get a rhythm going again guys. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test,
The nice thing I think is 2-2, we can see it with 2 guys set and it’s not out at the end. So it would be more disturbing if it was two people that were hitting the big hundreds every time. I think it’s a good thing that everyone is contributing, reasoning that they are good enough to perform at this level. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Of course there will be other challenges in the winter, surfaces will be different; but can we keep on going and take a step forward as a group; one of them guys going on and making those big contributions? England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, I mean, we had 400 twice in these circumstances. There’s a lot of good stuff there as well.
Joe Root (1/3):
We’ve had a little pushback yesterday and we’ve had a little bit of going our own way, which was in a strange way quite a good thing for the group, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, when we return to the captaincy role. It’s been really pleasing that we’ve been able to come through it and be so convincing, if you will, in the way that we’ve rounded off the series off, and throughout these three games actually.
No we didn’t, didn’t know much about Razaullah, the batter. We had not much to go on and fair play. He played some fantastic shots, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, set the fields to a certain challenge and hit the ball well. I don’t know how he’s not pulled a side, he’s swinging it that hard. But fair play, he played nicely, and made it difficult for us. When you first saw that pitch, at game start, if you said you want to go for 130, you meant it.
And for us to get clinical towards the back end there, a big partnership to see us home, was exactly the sort of thing we’re after, off the back of two other brilliant performances. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, So yeah, in many ways, out of this series there’s a lot of information to work with, and puts us in a nice place going into the winter.
Babar (2/2): [About the reason for a 21-year-old with limited first-class experience coming here and giving it energy to the Pakistan side] Look, before we come here, we think about different things and then we decide our team. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, Then unfortunately we have two changes after losing two games; when we came to England, very difficult for the batters, and first two pitches are very difficult.
So I think that’s the only two changes and as we know we’re going to try our best at third match. I think it’s time we analyse our failures, find out what kind of playing 11 we need to resume Test cricket and what we need to do for our players. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, I believe that they sit and the manager comes, the selector comes and then we sit and make our 11.
Yes, but when you’re coming different series you try your best, and you make decisions as to what kind of playing cricket in different conditions. I believe it’s tough, but I believe we work in here to try to get all the new boys to use their ability. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Babar Azam (1/2): [Would Pakistan be able to proceed with the belief that it has begun to believe after bowlers had retired in the first over] Yes. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, We have taken two wickets in the very first over of our game. So we believe it is high, it is always high. I think it’s very good (way) Root and both of the batsmen playing.
I don’t think so, because if we think about the previous three days, it does not benefit the bowlers at all. Beautiful, natural grass on the course. Hence the need to play a mixture of fast bowlers and one all-rounder. And the fifth (option) is Sami. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, We had a lot of fun with it in the dressing room, because it was done in collaboration with Razaullah.
I believe everyone is getting the opportunity to enjoy themselves in their innings and their bowling and he’s a very good talent and raw. I believe he’s a good man. We were impressed by the way he played this match and he’s giving us confidence. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, I can tell you a little about Razaullah before the Test. But I heard about a lot of things, but I heard about his batting because he came as an opener and he had scored a hundred. So I heard about that things.
With three guys out there that can bowl 90, it’s great to be a part of that bowling attack, as a four. They all have varying capacities, varying abilities and I think we’ve got something really special as a bowling group. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, Smudge (Smith) has set the trend up to the stumps and has helped me to take a number of wickets this summer.
He’s doing a great job, it’s brilliant and it’s impressive. Then Coxy this week, replacing Smudge in his second innings, in a really impressive performance, for five dismissals. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, I think it’s a good indication that we’re as a group. I feel like everyone has a chance to do something, everyone has a chance to get involved, and, well, it’s a fantastic summer.
Robinson (2/3):
It’s been a strange summer for the seam bowlers in England, it’s been so hot and dry. We were hoping for flatter wickets but we’ve definitely cut out a lot more with the new ball. I believe it’s a little harder as well and they are nipping for longer, which has been working for me and Abbas. I think he’s bowled exceptionally well for Pakistan. But, it’s definitely done more than previous summers.
When we arrive in South Africa in winter we’ll have to make another adjustment and see what the conditions are like there. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Ollie Robinson | England’s Player of the Series (1/3): [On his outstanding summer and England’s 3-0 series win] Yeah, it’s been very special, and it’s always nice to cap it off with a 3-0 win. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, We’ve all heard about how I don’t think that I’ll get to represent England again.
So to get the opportunity this summer and grab it with both hands, it’s been an amazing summer, and just hopefully I can keep that going. Yeah, sure, I’m definitely more determined to keep going, because I had a lot of ups and downs. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
I have that sense of wanting to keep going and wanting to continue to have something more. The past six months have been a push with the England backroom staff. But the work is not over yet, there’s a lot more to do, and I know that we’re just getting started. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Yeah, it was a very special moment for me as a bowler because whenever I came here in Lord’s 2018, I took eight wickets, four and four. And in this series I took again four wickets. So I played them all out for my 5-wicket. It was a good time for me and my people, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, in the sense that we were going to see a good movie. It was chaos around the Pakistan side; everybody came to play their best but I suppose it was from West Indies. Weather was very hot.
We were from there, here and it was hot weather, too. I guess we should’ve been there longer when we go to away. It was a bad search towards us, but all are trying too hard. Depends on his fitness, how much longer he can continue at 36 So I’m still continuing to do it and relying on the fitness. So I’m doing my hard work with my special trainer, Asif, and he’s going well with me, and hopefully I can play more.
Mohammad Abbas | Player of the Series (1/2): [On the dramatic beginning to the day and whether Pakistan thought it was possible] Yes, in cricket everything is possible so that’s why we started. And my speciality in taking wickets with the new ball.
So I spoke with the boys and all things are possible. So we did our level best. Yes everybody is trying hard, me included, and the edge through the slip, Root’s no ball. That’s why sometimes, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, as a fast bowler, when you try harder you are doing no-balls. It was a part of the game. It has disappeared, it’s gone. But we did a hard fought match, particularly this one.
Obviously a great time for us when the series was closed on and everyone chipped in on his highest Test score and batting with Razaullah late on day 3. I really enjoyed with Razaullah as well. Last year he played against us in first-class cricket and he scored some runs. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, He’s a very good future of Pakistan.
I’d say the pitches (apart from this one) have been very difficult to bat on, Lawrence (2/2). I think the first game at Leeds had quite a bit of life in it, and at Lord’s as well. So fifties have been great scores, and there hasn’t been huge scores throughout the series. I believe fifties have been worth a lot more, then.
Yeah, I think if I continue to perform the way I am then I’ll hit a three figure figure in no time. I’m obviously desperate to get 100 and hundreds for England but if I keep playing like that and working hard I am sure it will find me.
Hm, I think I’m much more plugged in to the team now, yeah, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, I think that’s helped my confidence in all three games, yeah, hopefully I’ll get the chance to continue playing and I feel pretty good about it.
Dan Lawrence | Player of the Match (1/2): [On the run-chase] It wasn’t the ideal start to the day. Abbas was at his usual state of form and laid it in for us, but to be fair we were given the opportunity to get the ball in the right place with a little class and experience from Coxy. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, Yeah it’s been a great place to play under Joe Root. It obviously helps when you’re winning cricket games and it has been a lot of fun.
All the boys thankfully have been performing, and it’s been a great start. I believe it’s always “runs” on his all-round contribution, but I would feel guilty if I left a few runs out there. I’m pleased to have played in the bat and it was good to make a good catch and catch two wickets. I really had a good start that morning and would have liked to strike it rich but it didn’t work out. I guess still giving something away was good, but didn’t get more.

Root’s 33.5 average this summer is his second worst in 14 English seasons after 2019 (29.83). It’s also his third home summer without an ATH (2019, 2020), and his third without a century.

21 – Steve Harmison vs NZ, 2004 (home)
21 – James Anderson vs SL, 2016 (home)
21 – Ollie Robinson vs PAK, 2026 (home)*
In this series, England bowled just 7.4 overs of spin, the second lowest by any side in a 3 match Test series (after South Africa chasing England in an away series in 1994 spun only 2.0 overs). England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Razaullah’s nine sixes are the 2nd-most by a Pakistan batter in a Test innings, behind Wasim Akram’s 12 vs ZIM (1996). They are also the most in a Test innings for England, tied with Ben Stokes at Lord’s (2023). His eight sixes vs pace are 2nd-most, behind Nathan Astle’s 10 vs ENG (2002). England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Razaullah is the second Pakistaner to make his debut in Test cricket after having scored a fifty and taken four wickets and the first wicket Sri Lanka (post 1982). England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
The 2022/23 series was the first occasion on which England have swept Pakistan in a 3-match Test series; this is the second. It’s England’s 15th series of three-match Test series sweep overall and Pakistan’s 11th series defeat by the same margin.
This series is only the eighth instance and the second in England of a 3-match Test series ending without an individual century. The other time in England was the 1888 Ashes. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Pakistan’s false-shot percentage in this series is 33% – the highest by any side in a 3-match Test series, with England’s 26.4% being beaten at home by South Africa in 2022. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
As easy as the final margin may seem, this chase was far from easy. Mohammad Abbas lifted the spirits of the Pakistan side with his first delivery of the day with a duck on Duckett, only to get another bang for a duck in the very same over, when he knocked down Emilio Gay. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
Pakistan couldn’t have had any better luck; they were 2/2 to begin with and Abbas was playing a superb opening spell. Joe Root and Jordan Cox, however, absorbed the pressure, kept the scoreboard ticking over and eventually brought a sense of calm to the innings. Pakistan had a couple of opportunities to pick off Root, but they weren’t taken.
He chopped one onto his stumps off Mohammad Ali, only for the bowler to have overstepped, before an outside edge flew between two slip fielders. Root got Pakistan’s attention and then got to work on his half to make 50 before he joined Cox to make 100 plus. England vs Pakistan 3rd Test.
The pair led England over the line without any more delays and Cox reached his own fifty as well. Pakistan had their spells but England hung around and finished the job off with eight wickets to put the final nail in the coffin to establish a 3-0 series whitewash for their countrymen. Wait for the after-match mumbo-jumbo. . . .
24.2
Mohammad Imran Randhawa to Jordan Cox, Pakistan whitewashed 3-0 by England. It’s fitting that skipper Joe Root is there to witness his side cross the line, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, as he was appointed captain at the start of this series. Players shake hands with each other.
This is England’s maiden white wash of Pakistan at home and it was a great beginning to the second stint of Root in charge. Coming to the ball: Full and outside off, England vs Pakistan 3rd Test, Cox drives into the box and Masood moves to his right with a fumble and that’s it for the pair of them to pinch an easy single.
