Live Match Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I
India have won the first match at the W after a dominant victory in the three-match T20I series to move ahead 1-0.After winning the first match at the W, India were 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series. Jasprit Bumrah has made him a difference and India is a class apart with the pace batter back in the mix.
The explosive knock by Abhishek Sharma was another highlight of the Men in Blue. He single-handedly carried the game away from Afghanistan with some sensational hitting and he did damage in the process. Afghanistan will need to come up with much better plans to contain him when the two sides meet again on Tuesday. For now this is Nikhil saying goodbye for Sri Krishna and Harish.
Take care! Shreyas Iyer | India captain: [You’ll be very happy because the bowling was very good] Absolutely, I’ll be very happy. I’m thankful for that and they all worked together with great synergy for success. You know, Bumrah is a wonderful value to the team, and, he gave the team the right start, the momentum, and all the bowlers coming in.
He too bowled so brilliantly, followed by Axar and Varun, the way they bowled, it was phenomenal effort. Honestly, could have done other with the last over, or you didn’t have one really? And you knew that it is a bit unfair on Dube as well coming in for the 20th over and unable to see the speed of the wicket, how the ball was going to move on.
Yeah, I thought that was when they were going to be pitching him, but that’s OK, it’s a game of cricket and he’ll obviously go and figure out what he needs to work on. Yeah, with Abhishek, shots that he played, it was flawless of him, some of the shots were exemplary, Ishan Kishan, are you seeing something different of Abhishek in the way he batts of late?
But when I come to Ishan, he’s in a good form right now, he’s very laid back, he’s very calm in the dressing room, he’s familiar with his game and he’s on the ground as well with practice sessions he’s very relaxed. So that’s a great sign for us as a team.

Ibrahim Zadran | Afghanistan captain: [Not getting enough runs on the board and result] Yeah, we didn’t get the result what we wanted. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, I would say we had a good start with three overs and after that we didn’t do well. We got them two wickets in a row and they put pressure on us, and we did well in the middle overs but didn’t manage to put in lots of runs on the board what we wanted.
I would say, their bowlers did a very good job, their fielders did a very good job and the turning point was was run-out. Ishan Kishan took the ball and bowled it to the bowler. Yes, Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, I think that was when they got the momentum, when that happened.
[On the two key wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Azmatullah Omarzai] Yeah, exactly, they’re the best fielding side and as I mentioned, the way Ishan Kishan picked the ball and threw it perfectly, so it was the turning point, and Gurbaz didn’t have, his day. I would say that he’ll return better. We had earlier expected it of him and yes, India did the same with the bowling and fielding aspect of the game.
Abhishek Sharma | Player of the match: I mean, I caught the ball in the first over and also in the slips, so there’s a bit of confidence that I brought up the batters into the first over. So that’s how we started the innings today. Now, I’m very pleased with that. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, I mean, when we go against him in the nets as well, it feels like we’re playing first few overs Test cricket to him.

As a result, it’s always extraordinarily surprising us in the slips as well. Well, when you make up your mind, when you know what you want to do, Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, I mean, two years ago we decided, we want to play in a certain way.
Our aim is to have a good year before World Cup beating all the teams throughout the year, and we managed to do that pretty well for all the team, particularly the batsmen. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, But I think, one or two series won’t make us a batting unit, because as a batting unit we think always makes a team first. This is what we always wanted to do, if you’re chasing 150, 160 as openers, you will always be on the winning side.

Captain Shreyas Iyer | India: [will be very happy, the bowling has been very good] Yes, very happy, the bowling was very good. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, I’m grateful for that, and everyone worked in synergy towards the success.
And as I mentioned earlier, Bumrah is a great asset to the team, and, you know, giving that start, creating the momentum for all the bowlers coming in. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I.
Arshdeep did equally great, then Axar and Varun bowled the way, it was phenomenal effort. If you have one, could you have done something else in the last over? You saw that it’s a bit unfair for Dube as well coming in for 20th over without being able to see the pace, how the ball is going to run on. Well, it’s a game of cricket, so at this time,
I felt that he will be giving the speech, but I’m not sure about that, because he will come back and analyze what he needs to improve on. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I, Yeah, starting from Abhishek – I feel that the shots he played were flawless and some were exemplary.
Talking about Ishhan, yes, he is in great form at the moment, he is very relaxed and very calm and he knows his game at the moment both in the dressing room and also in the game, practice sessions, he’s very relaxed, and he’s very calm. Well that’s a positive for us as a group. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I.
Ibrahim Zadran | Afghanistan captain: [About the result and failure to score adequate runs] Yeah we didn’t get the result that we wished for. Says I said that we had a good start in three overs and then we didn’t do much from then on. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I.
We had given them back to back wickets and they had put pressure on us and in the middle overs we batted well, but we didn’t put many runs on the board what we wanted. I would say, their bowlers and fielders did really well, was the turning point. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I.
Ishan Kishan grabbed the ball and threw it to the bowler. Yes, they got the momentum there, that was when I’d say that’s the turning point. Yeah, really, they were the best fielding side and as I said, Ishan Kishan picked the ball and threw it so well that it was the turning point and Rahmanullah Gurbaz didn’t have his day.
I would say he will be coming back stronger. We’d expect that of him and yes, the Indian bowlers and fielders did just that. Afghanistan vs India 1st T20I.
Abhishek Sharma | Player of the match: I mean, getting a catch in the first over, that also in the slips, makes you a bit more confident. So that’s how we started the innings today. So I’m really in happy state with that. When we are in the nets with him too, it’s as though we are playing first few overs Test cricket for him. So it’s always very, we’re always on our toes for him in the slips as well.
But when you decide, of course, when you decide, that’s when I remember that two years ago we said that we want to play in a particular fashion in T20 cricket. We want to beat every team this year before the World Cup and that’s what happened this year alright for the whole team and particularly for the batsmen, they had a good year.
I think one or two series is not going to make us a batting unit, however, because the way we think, as a batting unit, it always makes a team first. So we always wanted to give that start as openers especially wickets like this, if you’re chasing 150s, 160s then you’re always on the winning side because you gave wickets like this an early start.

It was a comfortable outing for India, at 22:30 Local Time / 17:00 GMT / 22:30 IST. Apart from a pivotal alliance with Nabi and Omarzai, Afghanistan was unable to develop the momentum with the bat. Bumrah then put the Indians on a winning side, getting rid of Gurbaz in the first over, before the spinners tightened the screws in the middle overs and Afghanistan were left reeling at 43/5 with seven overs to go.
Omarzai then unleashed a fantastic counter attack to bring Afghanistan into the 160s but Arshdeep Singh introduced the brakes at the death with a nifty spell. Abhishek Sharma was all guns blazing in the chase, as he scored a quickfire 50 to put India on top. Ishan Kishan was very helpful with a helpful cameo behind the other end.
The two were in charge of the powerplay, which assisted India to reach 82/1, with the only casualty being Sanju Samson in the powerplay. They inadvertently lost Kishan and Abhishek after that and then there was one thing that could happen when India followed up against the target in the 14th over after Abhishek’s brutal attack. Rashid Khan to Tilak Varma, 2 runs and India clinched a decisive 7 wicket victory! That’s an overthrow to draw curtains to the game. A little underarm shot that falls away off the left edge and is guided back to the point by Tilak Varma, is a single. The fielder, who is located there, catches the ball and throws it at the bowler’s end, but he is far away from it. They return for the second and that’s game, set, match! Handshakes between the players as they start heading back towards the dressing room..
