Australia 1st Innings: Australia vs Bangladesh
It was an incredible win, which will become a part of the legends of Bangladesh cricket! This historic moment will be one for the ages, and will be celebrated by the fans of Bangladesh all around the world. Over the years their pace bowling attack has come a long way and if they didn’t have their strike weapon, Nahid Rana, they are doing brilliantly to beat an impressive Australian bowling unit at home.
The success has helped them in the World Championship table. Bangladesh secured 12 away points to keep their PCT (points percentage) at 66.67% and put them in the top three, having finished third at the last group stage round robin clash with Namibia.
Australia’s fall in home points from 12 to 7, however, meant their top-spot PCT (points percentage) had closed to 77.78%, adding to their woes as they prepare for a demanding Test schedule ahead, including 5 away Tests against India.
Shanto (2/2): (On Tanzid’s century) Yeah, obviously I think he’s exciting. Attacking cricket is his white ball game. But in this Test match, he proved his class and was very cool and played the ball on merit. And we all know he has that ability to play Test cricket. Australia vs Bangladesh
And as top order batsman, we want someone to impact for the team and he delivered this match. (Is it the best moment in the career of the Bangladesh cricket? Yeah definitely I feel this is the greatest achievement till now for Bangladesh cricket in all formats. We believe that and going forward we will do something special in the future. (On the next Test in Mackay and if there is enough evidence for them to get a clean sweep?) Yes, we have that evidence but we need to play good cricket. Again as I had mentioned in this Test match, we require good cricket for five days. Again, I am going to say the same thing, five days of cricket requires to play well. Australia vs Bangladesh
And then as we did this Test match, follow the process and play session by session. Bowlers did their work and batsmen of the lower half of mid-order and lower order did their part in the way they batted. So that’s what we need to play in Mackay. Australia vs Bangladesh
Najmul Hossain Shanto | Bangladesh captain (1/1): (When he was first Bangladesh captain to win a Test match in Australia) Yeah I am happy, I am a proud boy, I am happy, very happy. It wasn’t easy and we were very happy with the way we did. Australia vs Bangladesh
(On their fine victory, honing their fast bowling skills and has there been a recent mindset shift to not only rely on spin?) Yes, certainly I believe that’s the biggest change in the Test cricket of Bangladesh. The pace bowlers normally did not want to play Test cricket because we did not get enough chance to play Test cricket in 5-6 years before. Australia vs Bangladesh
But, in the last two or three years, they have started playing more Test matches and boys are gaining more importance in the Test format. The reason they want to play and the reason they want to perform is because they want to be world class. That’s the mentality they have and they certainly have senior guys like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, there they help them a lot to encourage to play Test cricket. Australia vs Bangladesh.
Pat Cummins (Australia captain): (Does he have just one area in which he believes that defeat began? Probably it would be that one day. I guess we were pretty much on target with our preparations, I thought. I really liked it! So, no excuses. They played really well.
I had thought the day one wicket was doing a little bit early, but obviously I got to try and find a way to bat a little bit longer than we did, and then, just couldn’t penetrate with the ball. But, I thought they played really well. (If their batters didn’t take advantage of the few good starts and ideas to change?) Whenever there is something like that I believe you always get a glance at your match-ups and what type of a team you will be playing next.
But, we only just finished, so we’ll have a think about it. We are pretty resilient, so we will get together as a group and have a think about this and how we can improve in the future, so the batters will do as well. I think that’s the reason on Bangladesh playing well. I believe they outplayed us in all aspects. I believe they were very patient and well disciplined.
And, yes, it was very difficult to catch up once we were back. (On Hazlewood picking up 300 wickets and on Green’s century) Josh, he hasn’t had a great run for injuries the last couple of years, but he’s one of the hardest workers and just showed his class.
And, you know, didn’t have too much in it, seam-wise, still picking up six really important wickets. So he was super awesome. Then, Greeny, again, I thought: the pace of this innings was a good sign of his ability. Sure, just a couple of us to be with him, but it was awesome.
Hasan Mahmud | Player of the Match: (Did you have anything in mind during your practice sessions?) Australia vs Bangladesh
During the pre-match sessions we did everything we could to remain focused and confident in our process, rather than outcome, with a clear mind giving it our all with each and every second. We had no intention of stopping short over the next five days, we were ready to put the pressure on and the outcome would surely follow. Australia vs Bangladesh
(What plans do you have against the big Australian side?) While we knew what we wanted to do in the game based on the video we watched and the advice given to us by our coaches and analysts, it was how we put the plans into practice consistently on the field that made the difference.
(Did you like playing the game of bowling in these conditions?) Even on a grass surface, the first time a batter bowled, their patience and persistence were required, it was all about disciplined lines, lengths and delivery after delivery. Australia vs Bangladesh
(At celebrating home, anyway? My family, friends and the community where I hail from will be happy to see me back in the bowling rotation and playing well at home in Bangladesh. I know they will be celebrating this moment, and that is very important to me.
Mehidy (2/2): Absolutely, I think he is a very good captain, and makes very good decisions at the right time. In such conditions, I believe Hassan bowled six wickets in the first innings and in the second innings, we bowled the six wickets using spin. Australia vs Bangladesh
I think it would be better for our team this combination, I believe in these circumstances, it rotates a little in the morning, and there were footprints. I just try to bowl in the footmark all the times, and they have turned. (What’s this victory worth at home?) I believe it’s everybody happy, back home in the country.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1/1): (On their outstanding achievement) Definitely, I think it was an excellent, great moment for us. We’ve come a long way and after a long time, it’s a great job to see the team and how we’re playing it, it shows our character. Australia vs Bangladesh
I believe so, everything is perfect. (In the 100 years of the tour match inspiring them?) We do have a belief, though, After practice match, after we have lost, we have to think about, like, yes, it’s a great opportunity in this state that we are in. Australia vs Bangladesh
We have come here after a long time and they are a good team, there are world class players. We have some good players and if we can beat them, it will be good for our country and our cricket. And it’s telling one thing; we have to take it on faith.
Otherwise there’s no way that we can move on. Yes, I feel we need to trust as a whole unit. We only think about how to play in these circumstances. As a team unit, we bowl well, we bat well, at the right times. And Tamim and Shadman in first 10 overs and Tamim, taking a hundred and Shanto, batting very well and Mominul doing well.
And then later on, I think it was a great team with Hasan, Taskin and Taijul. They give me opportunity, if they get out, I can’t score. I just say one thing, there we have to have a positive approach and not give a thought to the bowling, who is coming in and we just have to play the ball all the times, we are very good attack. And we just think about like that.
