French Open champion Alexander Zverev battles through in four sets but fourth seed Ben Shelton suffers shock defeat

Defending men’s champion Jannik Sinner is first up on Centre Court at 13:30 BST when he takes on Nuno Borges, with French Open champion Mirra Andreeva and Novak Djokovic – who faces Stefanos Tsitsipas – following him.

Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed on her way to the second round bout with McCartney Kessler on Court One.

Other seeds in action include Spanish rising star Rafael Jodar, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka and Daniil Medvedev.

But no Brit will be around to watch in the singles as Katie Swan, Arthur Fery, Jan Choinski and Jacob Fearnley head to Thursday for round two in the event.

The broadcast, available on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, will begin at 11:00 BST, while coverage on the radio channels on BBC Five Live, BBC 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds will be available from 13:00. Then, from 11:00, there’ll be live text commentary here on the BBC Sport website.

Britwatch – four players through on day 2

There have been four home victories on day two at Wimbledon (after 10 defeats on Monday).

Katie Swan was the first Brit to reach the second round since Karen Wozniacki’s 6-4 6-4 win over world number 153, Romanian Alexandra Stan.
Arthur Fery got a nosebleed but managed to overcome him to take a 3-6 6-2 6-2 6-1 victory over Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
After falling behind 3-6 4-6 1-6 4-6 1-6 in the second game of the match, Jacob Fearnley made an excellent comeback to win 3-6 4-6 6-2 6-3 6-2 after three and a half hours against Alex Michelsen.
Jan Choinski went through Vit Kopriva in straight sets to record her third British entry into the round two of the men’s singles.
But five other players have been sent off:

The 18-year old Italian, Tyra Grant, 172nd world number one, secured a disappointing 6-4 6-2 victory over British number two, Katie Boulter.
Toby Samuel fell just short of victory, losing a thrilling five-set battle 5-7 6-3 6-3 3-6 7-6 (10-7) in his battle with 15th seed Jakub Mensik.
Wildcard Harry Wendelken won a set on his Wimbledon debut, but dropped 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 against Valentin Royer.
Jack Pinnington Jones, who trailed Brandon Nakashima by two sets and 4-3 in the third when play was suspended on Monday, was unable to pull off a miracle comeback and succumbed to a 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 defeat.
Billy Harris put up a good fight but lost to 19th seed Karen Khachanov 6-3 5-7 6-3 6-3.
